What did you do this past week?

Since I finished my lab early the week before, I didn’t have to worry about it this week. There were a couple of clarifying Piazza posts as well as some discussion on result comparisons with my peers, but other than that, I felt pretty good and relaxed about finishing the project early.

What’s in your way?

I’m pretty excited for the next project, and I’m really curious about having the opportunity to have a programming partner to be able to collaborate with. I don’t know that many people in this class though, and I know that we’ll have to choose a different partner for each project — so that makes me a bit nervous. I’m pretty happy that I’ll be able to meet new people, though!

What will you do next week?

Next week, the project will be out, so hopefully I’ll be able to start on that pretty early. Since I have another class’ project due this week, it’ll be a good change of pace compared to what I’m working on to finish up this week.

What did you think of the Pair Programming?

This isn’t my first encounter with Paired Programming (I had a programming partner in Data Structures)! I was much less experienced back then, so my partner was definitely the one guiding me along the way. Now that I have some more experience, I hope to return the favor to whoever my partner may be.

What was your experience of operators, pointers, and references?

I had some experience with those concepts through Computer Architecture and OS, but I was never formally introduced to them. I’m really glad Professor Downing did spend the time going through the concept, introducing so many examples that really nailed my understanding (hopefully) of them, as well as left and right-values.

What made you happy this week?

I just celebrated Chinese New Year with some friends yesterday! I made some beef noodle soup — it was really warm and the perfect thing to eat while it was cold outside.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Start early on projects! I feel much more relaxed and able to absorb things from my project because I have more time to process information (especially since I learn slowly).
